The Alter Cycles MadMax HA42 / HA43 Chainring continues the bold and irregular design language of the MadMax series, while introducing smaller 42T and 43T options for Tracklocross and lower gear ratio single speed setups.


As Tracklocross riding becomes more popular, more riders are bringing single speed bikes onto dirt, gravel and mixed terrain. Compared with standard street or speed-focused gear ratios, a smaller chainring can offer quicker acceleration, a more manageable pedaling rhythm and better control on climbs, loose surfaces and routes that require frequent speed changes.


The MadMax HA42 / HA43 keeps the wild and recognizable look of the original MadMax design, while the hard anodized finish gives it a more understated and durable-looking metal surface. It works well on Tracklocross-inspired builds, street single speed bikes or custom builds made for mixed terrain.


Made from 7075-T6 CNC aluminum, this chainring balances low weight, strength and stiffness. The BCD144mm standard is compatible with many common single speed and track cranksets, while the 42T / 43T options are ideal for riders who want to lower their gear ratio and add more control for gravel or dirt-oriented setups.


The HA42 weighs approximately 90g, while the HA43 weighs approximately 102g. For riders who like the MadMax visual identity but want a more practical small-tooth chainring option, the Alter Cycles MadMax HA42 / HA43 is a distinctive upgrade.
