The Thomson 31.8mm MTB Aluminum Downhill Handlebar is built for aggressive downhill riding and demanding mountain bike use. With an 800mm width, 20mm rise, 9° backsweep, and 5° upsweep, it delivers a stable and confident cockpit feel for steep, fast, and technical terrain.

Made from 7050 aluminum alloy, this downhill bar is designed for strength, durability, and long service life. The 65mm wide clamping area fits Thomson Direct Mount stems, creating a highly torsionally stiff bar and stem combination. The 31.8mm center section remains straight across a 90mm width, helping reduce stress concentration, especially when used with wider Direct Mount stems.

Thomson aluminum MTB handlebars are butted and tapered through multiple steps for optimal fatigue life. The bar ends are thickened from 1.4mm to 1.6mm to better resist impact damage and ground contact, making them well suited for hard riding conditions.

The bar is produced using advanced Hydraulic Press Forming, reducing the need for manual grinding often used on traditional bent bars. This process helps maintain consistent wall thickness and tight tolerances, especially in tapered sections, keeping weight low while improving fatigue strength.

Paired with a Thomson X4 Stem or Direct Mount Stem, this handlebar creates a strong, precise, and reliable aluminum MTB cockpit. If the bar is bent after a crash or impact, it should be retired and replaced. Friction paste is not recommended when both the stem and handlebar are aluminum.
